- Salvatore Cutugno,
artistically known as Toto Cutugno, was born the 17th of July 1943 in Fosdinovo
province of Massa (ITALY), a few months later, his family moves to "La
Spezia", where his father has to complete the military service as a marine. Since he was a kid Toto he showed a big interest in music and his father, an excellent trumpet player, encourages him and Toto starts with the drums as a self taught student. His skills allow him, only being a child, to join a local music band. Meanwhile, he learns to play the accordion and at age of 13 takes part in a regional contest where he gets the 3rd place. |

He goes on playing the drums in local bands until he reaches the age of 19, and afterwards, he realizes that country life is full of limitations, so he decides to join a band leades by maestro Manusardi who proposes him to do a tour around Finland for 6 months. When Toto goes back to Italy, he forms a band called "Toto e i Tati". This way he starts to play in different bars and pubs of the peninsula, with a pepertoire of hits and songs composed by himself. In 1975, Toto, who has been writing and composing songs for some years, becomes a famous composer in France, where a song called "Africa" is edited by Joe Dassin under the title of "L'eté Indien" which very soon becomes an international great hit. In 1976 his fame as an autor is confirmed with another recording of his songs featured by Joe Dassin, "Et si tu n'existes pas". From that moment on, he gets lots of offers. He starts writing songs for Mirielle Mathieu, Dalida, Jhonny Halliday, Michel Sardou, Claude Françoise, Hervé Vilard and Sheila in France and in Italy for Domenico Modugno, Gigiola Cinquetti, Ornella Vanoni... His songs apart from being performed by these singers, are also played by big orchestras such as F. Poucek, Caravelli, and Mauritat. Also in 1976 Toto, for the first time, takes part in the Festivalbar with the song "Nel cuore nei sensi" and this time he gets a very good place. The same song is performed in France by Gerard Lenorman. This one also gets to the top ten. |

In
1977, the Albatross take part again in San Remo Festival with a song composed by
Toto "Gran Premio" (Big Prize) which gets the fifth place. |

During the same
period he writes the first song for Adriano Celentano, "Soli", which
stays in the top ten of sales for months. In 1979 Toto edits his first L.P. entitled "Voglio l'anima". The song in this L.P. are not only performed by Italian singers but also from abroad. |

In 1980 Toto archieves a great success, first place in the Festival of Sanremo with "Solo noi", first place in Festival "Yamaha Songs Internacional" with the song "Olympic Games" performed by Miguel Bosé and fourth place as a songwriter with "Innamorati" in Festivalbar. The same year he is the author of the L.P. "Il tempo se ne va" for Adriano Celentano, album that gets a big success. Later on he creates "Flash", the sound track of the TV program presented by Mike Bongiorno. |

In 1981 appears his second L.P. entitled "La mia musica". This is also
performed by great international artists. |

In 1984 Toto is
back in Sanremo with "Serenata", achieving the second place in the
general classification. In 1985 he takes part in the Festival of Sanremo, but only as a composer, with two of his songs. One of them is performed by José Luis Rodriguez (Know as "El Puma" with the song "C'est Venice". The other one by the well known Mexican singer Luis Miguel, discovered by Toto in Italy, who at the age of 15 got the second place with the song "Noi ragazzi di oggi". In 1985 Toto published the single "Mi piacerebe andare al mare il Lunedi" (I'd like to go to the see in Monday). |

In 1986 he
receives a prize for the song "L'italiano". In the last five years
this record was the top sales all over the world. |

En 1990 Toto obtains a second place in the festival of Sanremo with "Gili amori" which that time is performed by the great Ray Charles who shows us a unique performance. That really touches Toto and this feeling is transmitted to the audience of Ariston theatre. In 1990 obtains another great success, winning Zagreb in the Eurovision Contest with "Insieme 1992". In 1991 together with Gigi Sabani presents the TV program "Piacere Raiuno" and also presents the 36th edition of the Eurovision contest which takes place in the studios of Cinecittà in Rome, with Gigliola Cinquetti, the only winners of this important Italian event. |

Also, in 1991, he presents with Rafaella Carra and Fabrizio Frizzi the TV program of Rai 1 "Vela d'Oro". In 1992 is published the L.P. "Non è facile essere uomini" and in summer he presents the program RAI 1 "Stasera mi Butto" and in Autum presents with Alba Parietti "Domenica In". Meanwhile, he writes the song "Se mi ami"(If you love me) which is presented in the Festival of Sanremo by Claudia Mori. In 1995 Toto goes back to the Festival of Sanremo with "Voglio andare a viere in Campagna" with a big radio success at that moment. That is also the name of the album which appears at the same time. In 1990 Toto presents a program called "Sei Forte" for Tele Montecarlo. He is always gets the support of his good friend Franco Nisi, the director of Radio Italia solo musica. In 1997 he is again in Sanremo with "Faccia Pulita", song that is includes in the Album "Canzoni Nacoste". In 1999 he
continues with the musical managing of the program "I Fatti Vostri",
Rai 2.
